Many urban Malaysians are attracted to the moderately-priced food that is usually served in a casual atmosphere. Its popularity has given rise to its potential business in the foodservice industry. The sudden increase in the number of Casual Western Dining Restaurants (CWDR), however, creates a stiff competition which has resulted not only in a bad turnover of customers but also in businesses closing abruptly. Another reason for such closures is also the dissatisfied customers who experience poor quality service at these dining restaurants. Thus, the current study aims to examine the relationship between Service Quality (SERVQUAL) and customer satisfaction at CWDR. A total of 380 questionnaires distributed and yielded a response rate of 53 percent. The SERVQUAL model contributed 76 percent of the variance in the customers’ satisfaction level among those who dined in the restaurants. The overall results show that in a highly competitive business environment, customers' evaluation of Service Quality and customer satisfaction is critical to the service restaurants' survival. The management must, therefore, focus on these most crucial factors that have enhanced service standards of CWDR.

The influence of research collaboration and networking (RECON) on research productivity at an accredited South African tertiary education institution

Across the globe, academic staff members of accredited tertiary education institutions are expected to perform tasks pertaining to teaching and learning, research, and community engagement. Particularly in a South African dispensation, research shows that many accredited tertiary education institutions’ academic staff members have excessive teaching and learning workloads. This, in turn, adversely affects their research productivity - their abilities to publish research outputs (e.g. articles, conference papers, and books). It should be noted that for every accredited research output produced by a South African accredited tertiary education institution, the institution is entitled to subsidy income from the Department of Higher Education and Training. Regardless of the foregoing, there is a reported decline in research productivity of accredited South African tertiary education institutions’ academic staff members. As such, for this study, the phenomenon of Research Collaboration and Networking (RECON) was explored as an intervention to overcome this problem. Empirical research was conducted through means of mixed-method research from where data were collected from a RECON group attached to the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at an accredited South African tertiary education institution. Stemming from the results, RECON appeared to have a positive influence on the research productivity of sampled academics. Hence it is recommended that dedicated time is allocated for RECON-related tasks on individual teaching and learning timetables of South African accredited tertiary education institutions’ academic staff members.

Do the perceived accountancy skills of fast-moving consumer goods Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise employees influence the attainment of key financial objectives?

In South Africa, Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) play a substantial role in the creation of socio-economic value within the national economy. In particular, these business entities assist with the creation of employment opportunities, the equal dissemination of wealth and the contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product. Based on previous studies, however, South African SMMEs have a dismal sustainability rate since approximately 75 per cent of these business entities fail after being in existence for only three years. Among the economic factors researched which adversely affect South African SMMEs’ sustainability is the pandemic of scarce skills; of which one is accountancy skills. To this end, for this study, the emphasis was placed on whether the perceived accountancy skills of South African fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) SMME employees influenced the attainment of their SMMEs’ key financial objectives. Empirical research was conducted which constituted both survey research and quantitative research, and a total of 500 responses were received from FMCG SMME owners/managers. Stemming from the results it was established that the perceived accountancy skills of South African FMCG employees did have a statistically significant influence on the attainment of key financial objectives, though very weak.

Brand Preference in Muslimah Fashion Industries:An Insight of Framework Development and Research implication

Muslimah fashion industries are areas that have attracted attention, especially after the recent wave among brand endorser such an artist increases their level of awareness towards religious and affected way of their attire. While the existing literature highlights a significant shift in consumers’ behavior regarding brand preferences, there is a need to investigate the motives behind such moves. Understanding customers’ preferences on muslimah fashion are crucial for company that operates in fashion industries due to such a highly competitive industry and rapid change on taste and preference. Having a good understanding of the real motives behind customers’ preferences on muslimah fashion will help business organization to understand customers better. Thus, this paper explores the three independent variables and gathers findings from a qualitative data through literature on factors influencing customers’ preferences for muslimah fashion. These results will eventually be used for developing a conceptual framework to be used for future empirical research. The literature revealed that uniqueness, price and celebrity endorser are among the determining factors that influence customers’ preferences in making decisions. Future branding empirical research would include these elements as items in building up the survey instrument.

As human beings we all have undergone some sort of stress in our life either positively or negatively.But unpleasant mental uncertainty may be harmful in our life if it happens continuously. Therefore, job stress holds a dominant place among the stress types. Job stress is conceptualized as the mental, emotional, and physical drain brought about by the perceived in-congruence between job demands and employees’ capabilities and resources. Job stress affects the employees’ performance and as a result, employees do not work efficiently and effectively which affect to the performance of the organization at large. Banking sector of Sri Lanka is one of the leading parts of the financial sector and it plays a vital role in the country’s development. Like any other organization, employees of banks also suffer from the job stress. The preliminary survey confirmed that there was a high level of job stress in Executive level employees in NDB Banks in western province. Literature shows that employees who are having higher level of emotional intelligence can successfully manage their job stress. Emotional Intelligence is the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and feelings of others, for motivating ourselves and for managing emotions well in ourselves and in our relationships. Therefore this research aims at investigating the Impact of emotional intelligence on job stress. Reliable and a validated questionnaire was used as the primary data collecting instrument and data were collected from 120 respondents. Simple and multiple regression analysis were used to test the proposed hypotheses. Findings revealed that Emotional Intelligence and dimensions of emotional intelligence: (a) self-awareness, (b) self-management, (c) social awareness, significantly and negatively impact on the level of job stress of executive level employees in the respective bank except the dimension of (d) relationship management since it was positively impact on the level of job stress. Thus it can be concluded Emotional intelligence impact on reducing job stress in banking sector employees and people who are have high emotional intelligence can manage their stress appropriately.

Factors Impede the Creation of Small Entrepreneurial Businesses in Bangladesh

The creation of small entrepreneurship in a developing country like Bangladesh has paramount importance in socioeconomic development of the country. The reasons can be attributed by the balanced growth and the inclusion of general masses in the development process of the country. However, this development process is hindered by a number of unfavorable factors which are primarily concerned with personal, economic, social, environmental, political, and legal in nature. Access to the resources of the small entrepreneurs of the country should be ensured to initiate and run the small business in Bangladesh. Hence, this paper aims at exploring the factors that hinder the development of small business entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. This study follows both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Two hundred ten small entrepreneurs in different business sectors of Bangladesh such as, food processing, rice farming, freight forwarding, tea production, barbing salon, water refill station, grocery business, fish selling, cattle farming, etc. were interviewed with a structured questionnaire. Factor analysis was conducted to identify the factors impede the small entrepreneurial businesses in Bangladesh. Regression analysis was carried out to examine the relationships between the hindering factors and the overall development of small business entrepreneurship in Bangladesh. The results show that the lack of local support for starting and running business, lack of knowledge on information technology, lack of business experience, and lack of entrepreneurship training are important factors or barriers for the development of small entrepreneurial businesses in Bangladesh. This study suggests that the policy makers should focus more on stimulatory, supporting and sustaining activities to develop small business entrepreneurship in Bangladesh.

THE STUDY ON THE IMPACT OF JOB CHARACTERISTICS AND FAMILY SUPPORTIVE SUPERVISOR BEHAVIORS ON WORK FAMILY ENRICHMENT

Work and family roles are like two sides of a coin. Those two domains are crucial points for the individuals as well the organizations betterment. Most of the work-family concepts are discuss about the negative side of the work-family interface over the past decades. But there is an essentiallty to investigate the bright side of the work-family interface. Therefore, this study attempts to investigate the positive side of work-family interface. There are several concepts within the work-family interface such as work-family positive spillover, enhancement, enrichment, facilitation. Those are interchangeable. Current study engrossed on work family enrichment which defined as the extent to which experiences in work role improve the quality of family life. Two main antecedents were selected by referring the existing body of knowledge regarding the work-family interface namely job characteristics and family supportive supervisor behavior and selected context was banking industry. Based on that researcher investigated the impact of job characteristics and family supportive supervisor behavior on work to family enrichment of all the bankers of Bank of Ceylon branches within Rathnapura Municipal Council area. Data were gathered from 92 bankers through a standard and validated questionnaire and analyzed those data by using SPSS 21 statistical software. A multiple regression was performed to investigate the impact of the variables interested. Pertaining to the previous research findings, the current study also brought evidence to a significant positive impact of job characteristics on work to family enrichment. In contrast to the previous research findings, no any impact was found of family supportive supervisor behaviors on work to family enrichment. Therefore, the study concludes that job characteristics would facilitate individuals functioning in the family domain. Consequently, this will help the organization to rethink about their job designing strategies to enhance the job characteristics so that it will enhance the work to family enrichment.
